How Hormones Quietly Control Your Decisions
You may not realize your hormonal life is living you. It may even be dictating your choices. That, and of course, your conditioning plus social norms, may be controlling you. What to do?
So whether you are being led around by your oxytocin and estrogen, cuddle and lust hormones or your vasopressin, bonding, long-term commitment hormones, your decisions may not be entirely your own.
Further More…Hormonal Shifts, Perimenopause, and Birth Control Choices
And if you are a woman in your twenties, you may not fully realize baby making does not last forever. Generally women begin to experience hormonal shifts aka perimenopause in their mid to late forties but some experience it as early as in their thirties.
You may even have or had a burst of sexuality in your early forties, a last hooray for baby making! Today many women are attempting to take charge of their hormonal process to stop or eliminate menstruation or pregnancy with birth control pills. Some even want to continue the menses process to keep their skin glowing. Freezing your eggs is another possibilities these days. But who wants to run after a two year old in your fifties.
Risks and Consequences of Hormonal Birth Control
The medical profession seems to say it is all safe. But only you can be the judge. I heard on a CBC broadcast the birth control pill was tested on women in Puerto Rico. The deaths were not reported. Many women had trouble with the pill. It has been refined. I can’t speak about recent developments but in my day it was recommended not to take birth control pills for more than five years.
My Experience With HRT and Bio-Identical Hormones
Years later, the gynecologist came into the examining room looking at my chart and immediately recommended HRT, hormone Replacement therapy. I protested, telling him what a healthy lifestyle I led. The doctor left, apologizing to me. Five years later, it was in the News these medical hormones caused an increase in heart issues for women.
Still, I have to say I am my mother’s daughter. Vogue magazine did a spread on her when she was younger because she was so beautiful. She was not a model; she was a dancer performing in a hit nightclub act, many years ago.
So, even though I did not jump into medical hormones for my skin, I did try out bio-identical plant based hormones. These too can have negative effects. I stopped when I got odd sensations in my breasts.
My Advice: Research Your Hormonal Health Options
My advice is do your research for both the positive, convenient upside and the potential downside. Your body is your laboratory. Your hormonal life may be leading you around, but eventually, you have to live with it. What do you want to do? What are your values? Part of that research means understanding how stress disrupts your hormones—because lifestyle factors are just as powerful as any pill or therapy.
Natural Healing Practices I Choose for Hormonal Balance
I have to say, whenever it is possible, I choose the least invasive natural way to solve whatever health issues I may encounter.
I eat organic. I exercise-move. What I chose to do has changed over the years from three to four dance classes a week in my fifties to Chi Gong and renting studio space. for myself. I have therapeutic sessions as needed. Often these are distant healing ones with my mentor and colleague, who lives in Ohio. I assist him with his international Frequency and Vibration seminars. even giving little sessions to him…
