These wellness tips are just a few of what I tell my clients to help them help themselves. If you want to be proactive in your wellness, put the tip appropriate to you into your awareness and action. Small actions lead to big solutions.
Structural Tips
Stand and sit up straight! I know your mother told you this…and it is still true. Computer posture where your head pushes forward and your chest collapses will give you a sore neck. Have your computer at the right height and distance from you.
Sit on your sitting bones. Don’t slouch, and your lower back will thank you!
And when you stand up…don’t look like you are still sitting down. We are in the army now. The army of life. Ground through your feet, top of your head to the sky.
Stand and sit up straight will enhance your body/organ function and blood supply.
Take a break…from the computer and walk around, your bones will thank You!
Structural Sleep Position +
Ease your way to sleeping on your side or back with pillows to provide comfort. Do not sleep on your stomach, otherwise you are condemning yourself to a lifetime of back pain. It may have worked when you were a baby or maybe you did not have enough ‘tummy time’ then but now is not that time.
Do have a getting ready to sleep routine. Plan an hour or even two of bedtime prep. Do not work until you drop. And least I forget, do not sleep with your arms above your head. You will have a numb awakening.
EYES
Did you know that the eyes are not only the windows to the soul but an extension of your brain? And reflect not only DNA vulnerabilities but psychic and emotional issues as well.
Take care of your eyes by not staring at your computer for too long. Look away now and then. Lack of movement effects the flexibility of the lens of the eyes.
You have three levels of vision, close, near and far. Intersperse your use of the range. Use blue light glasses as appropriate. Notice shifts and changes. Use eye support supplements from time to time. Hydrate with drops without additives as needed. Never look directly at the sun especially during an eclipse. Yes, some of this you already know but are you implementing?
Concussions
A concussion is a brain bruise. If you have one be appropriate! Limit screen time. Wait two weeks and come and see me for a session.
If you went unconscious, your concussion is more serious. If you have had more than one concussion know that concussions stack. The more concussions you have had the more serious it is and the greater perceptual issues you will have. Know that all my clients have recovered. One even graduated from University and was awarded a grant in scholarship. Concussion have physical and emotional repercussions.
So Much More
My clients flashed before my eyes as I wrote this and there is so much more to share. But the tips above will give you a start on your structural issues. I gave my first ergonomic workshop in Toronto for the Unemployment Insurance Service when they were still using key punch. Not that I know what that is but the basics of good posture have been with me from my background in dance and as a therapist…as well as personally when I overcame a diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis. Humans have challenges, and these challenges change over time. If you need more support in your challenges, you know where to find me!
