Resistance, the final frontier; if you succeed in moving beyond it, you will encounter spaciousness and a sense of oneness. You will be both alone and connected to everything. Resistance may feel like the final frontier, but there is a path through it—explore awakening beyond resistance and what becomes possible on the other side.
I used to think I was teaching skills but as my years of teaching progressed, I realized what I was really teaching was how to release resistance. That invisible barrier which just says NO.
You can see how complex this can be in this little email I wrote a client…
‘I wanted to say…you are perfect just as you are. Your essential self is always there. Since it is invisible, it is just a matter of paying attention to it. Love to help you with this…
If you ever want to work with/befriend your resistance, I am happy to be there, or just for physical rebalancing. Everything is a bit paradoxical in life…and usually the part that wants change is the most neurotic part of oneself. In a way, dialoguing and working with physical symptoms is often easier because these express needs.’
As I read this, there is so much to unpack. Simply put, your personality and its
Sub-personalities are not the whole of your consciousness.
Understanding Resistance and How to Move Through It
Resistance is the final frontier to your happiness. Happiness is your true nature. And I know this when I am happy…how about you? I also know the essential self is even beyond this…good is good and bad is also good. Every cloud has a silver lining….this is a non-dualistic approach but mostly we all live in paradox…and want what we want…one of my spiritual teachers called this Hell. And it leads to lots of frustration, etc.
What is Resistance? Ultimately, it is a form of self-sabotage masquerading as protection. It is your fake security blanket.
What does resistance look and feel like? It can feel like numbness, having tears but no feelings. It can be a discounting of anything you feel. It can sound like “I don’t know” or silence, which says “I can’t” or simply no. The only way through is very teeny, tiny steps. Small actions speak louder than words. Just making your bed can be that small action or even brushing your teeth. It can be taking a moment to smell the roses, coffee or a look at the sky. A meditation practice to move through resistance is another gentle, accessible step—one that helps you befriend the stillness rather than fight it.
What’s This Got to do with Healing?
What has this got to do with healing? Everything. Illness, disease is not just physical, it is a turning point of the soul to retrieve itself. What is the soul? It is that aspect of yourself which journeys the life journey. It is life itself in its myriad forms. And also the soul seeks to journey back to the source. You are one of the many.
So find the silver lining in your aches and pains. Listen, listen to your heart song…it will tell you what is needed from you to you. Everything exists in you!
You are perfect, just the way you are….
