Healing Path

Sharing is Loving

There is no single right healing path. Every BODY has slightly different needs and may take a different route to health and well-being. My own approach keeps evolving.

Be appropriate. Choose what is least invasive when possible. Use medicine when needed — but lean on natural, drug-free approaches where you can, either as the primary path or as a complement to allopathic care.

When possible, and when you are not in excruciating pain, give your body a moment to let your physical and emotional reactions settle from distress, injury, or trauma. Then choose what to do next. As my mother would say, “Have a cup of tea, dear, and go to bed.”

Rigid Paradigms

Some people say they only believe in science. But scientists themselves will tell you that science keeps changing. As modern research keeps confirming what ancient healing traditions discovered through thousands of years of experimentation, rigid belief in science or conventional medicine alone seems a tad laughable.

Rigid believers in science are often the ones who rush into surgery or a lifelong drug prescription for chronic conditions without exploring natural alternatives or lifestyle changes first. Yet simple lifestyle shifts can lead to a healthier, less drug-filled life.

Chronic disease affects 6 in 10 U.S. adults, and 4 in 10 live with two or more chronic conditions — yet only about 6% of Americans practice all five of the CDC’s key health behaviors known to prevent them. (Source: CDC) The stats are about the U.S. but do you think it is much different in Canada? I hope it is a tad better.

On the opposite end are people who believe only in a natural, non-medical approach. A hands-on Body, Being & Heart approach — supported by naturopathy, herbs, supplements, and detox — can be deeply effective for chronic, long-term issues, and especially helpful for injury and emotions like anxiety stuck in the body. But sometimes, it is not enough on its own. Learn more about my sessions →

More than one in three U.S. adults (36.7%) now use a complementary health approach — up from 19.2% in 2002 — and two in three adults aged 50–80 (66%) report using at least one integrative medicine strategy to prevent or treat a health concern. (Sources: NUHS / NHIS SurveyUniversity of Michigan IHPI)

The Middle Path

You are in pain. What do you do? If it is severe pain or bleeding, it is time to go to emergency.

I remember one such visit. The doctor came over to examine my arm. I stepped back and said, “Have you read the chart?” He apologized and sent me on for X-rays. I had a Level 1 fracture in my radius.

There was nothing more the doctors could do. It was painful, but not broken enough to need a cast. Still, it was wonderful to see a lovely elderly doctor each week who reassured me it would heal perfectly. And it did. I also took a few over-the-counter pain relievers in those early days.

If I take over-the-counter pain meds for more than a day or two, I break out in a rash over my liver. Not good — my liver is detoxing. It is not happy hour.

But it was helpful to know what had happened to my body and to receive that weekly encouragement.

Stories From My Clients

I once had a client, briefly, with a serious kidney condition who believed she could heal it with her mind. She made major lifestyle changes and pursued natural healing. Many people — myself included — have healed from supposedly incurable illness. There are even documented cases of spontaneous remission from stage IV cancers. Do everything you can, and keep your options open.

But she did not come back when I gently suggested she keep a backup plan and get on the kidney transplant list — something her doctors had also encouraged.

Severity Matters

Natural healing takes time. Depending on the severity and how far you have drifted from balance, it can take a while.

A young woman once came to me who had been on medication for an autoimmune disease. If we had started working together then, she might be well now. Instead — perhaps because allopathic medicine often masks symptoms rather than addressing root causes — she continued down the path of disease. High blood pressure and kidney issues followed. She had not made lifestyle changes; she had never even heard of a health food store. At least I convinced her to tell her parents what was happening and to stop drinking Ensure for breakfast.

That young woman is now on dialysis at 25. The medical profession did, eventually, refer her to a nutritionist.

In 2023, 76.4% of U.S. adults — more than 194 million people — had at least one of 12 selected chronic conditions, and the prevalence of chronic disease among young adults rose from 52.5% to 59.5% over the past decade. (Source: CDC, 2025)

Perhaps the most dramatic session I ever had was with a man whose sister had gifted him the appointment. He told me he drank 10 Cokes a day and could not sleep. I told him bluntly: he needed to stop. I never saw him again.

His sister came to me in tears two years later. She told me her brother had, after our session, eventually changed his lifestyle and become a Buddhist. But the changes came too late. He had died.

A 2025 Tufts study published in Nature Medicine estimates that sugar-sweetened beverages cause 2.2 million new cases of type 2 diabetes and 1.2 million new cases of cardiovascular disease globally each year. Drinking more than one serving of sugar-sweetened beverages per day is also linked to a significantly higher risk of chronic kidney disease. (Sources: Tufts UniversityJAMA Network Open)

Awareness Eases the Way

You may need a bit of both — natural healing and allopathic medicine — at different points in your life. Let open-minded awareness, rather than insistence, guide you on your healing path.
